Pros

The benefits and pay are one of the best around. There was a hold on merit increases last year for regular joes, but it has been lifted this year.

Cons

There are some departments where the leaders have been promoted to their highest level of incompetence - and they continue to promote people like themselves. Those individuals prefer you to live shoulder deep in their colons, while individuals with scruples get pushed out or discriminated against, while HR lives in the backpockets of the offenders. Other ethically reprehensible behavior is swept under the rug and later those offenders are promoted. Not much to say in the last 3 yrs around internal talent growth and development. Favoritism is rewarding for those who can manage to secure it. However, there has just been another round of leadership change internally and the morale is poised for a promising upswing. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Pros

The prestige of working for a leading medical device organization. I always bought in to the corporate mission; it felt good to be part of that.

Cons

It appears to be highly dependent on the division you are in. The division I was in was poorly managed with fluctuating direction that made it difficult to meet targets. Annual reorganizations cultivated an overpoliticized environment that challenged deliverables. "Talent development" was all talk, no action. Seniority and experience were not valued or rewarded. Lack of long-term (and short-term) strategic planning resulted in "project/product du jour" which does not foster a sustainable revenue stream.
