Pros

-young atmosphere -you get to know your co-workers -after work happy hours -opportunity to work abroad (europe, asia, australia, all over the US) -pay and benefits aren't too bad -kickoffs (company events they fly everyone from all over the world to a location and party)

Cons

Working as an account manager, you manage current clients. Its not as pressure filled as new biz (sales consultant/intl mgmt trainee) but its still really pressure filled. you're expected to conform to what everyone else does aka come in early work late, show that your working even if you're having a slow day. The role is basically that of a glorified sales person with the addition of managing client needs. your responsible for renewing clients when their term is up and upselling 10k a month. There is absolutely MICRO managment to the max which is the most annoying part of the job. They never let you excercise your own judgment and always give tell you what to do/what time blah blah. -micro mgmt (this is by far the biggest con) -ridiculous expectations -high pressure on yourself and your clients -unethical sales tactics -the managers have their own clique -very pushy in general

Pros

Kick off is great. You learn a lot and have a chance to grow and be independent. You learn how to gain respect from the people you're selling to.

Cons

For a company that's been around for over a decade I would imagine they'd have more of their stuff together. There is no consistency within the company. Some offices treat their employees well, have office managers while others are left to fend for themselves. No one knows where to pass things off or what the procedures are. You are a work horse and work 10 hour days without getting paid all the hours you work. Breaks are discouraged as well as hour lunches. The culture of the company is to stay late and not be the first one to leave. If you are the first one to leave people look at you like you did something horribly wrong. It's an all or nothing sales job so if you are a few days away from the end of the month and haven't sold anything there is nothing motivating you to sell since you don't see a % of any sales you make yet you are pushed to sell as much as you can regardless of the fact that you don't get paid out on it. If your quota is 20k and you hit 19.9k you get absolutely nothing in commission. You don't get paid out on multi year deals and get paid commission on a quarterly basis. You are responsible for training and client services which takes away from your time selling.

Pros

Meltwater is a very people oriented company. My managers always looked out for me, gave me honest feedback and helped me understand my own strengths and weaknesses in much more detail. Sales is tough anywhere and the same is true at Meltwater, but the product has huge potential and I found that if i worked hard and focused on building sound relationships with clients, results would follow. It was also a young place to work - obviously this means some people lacked experience, but the entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to be myself with colleagues more than made up for it. It was interesting as a business grad to watch a young company maturing as well - while there i saw them roll out the HR department, PR department and begin making acquistitions. MEST is also pretty admirable.

Cons

I worked really hard there - for me it was fine, but I don't think its for everyone. At my new job people spend half their day on facebook and I didn't have time for that at Meltwater. Offices are typically less than 15 people with an average age of 27 or so, so i wasn't learning from seasoned veterans and people were figuring things out as they went along.
