Pros

Shipping software that is used by over 300 million people around the world is no mean feat and if put on the right projects you have a lot of things to boast about. Great place to learn the technical nitty gritty. Opportunity to work with, learn from and compete with some of the best minds in the industry.

Cons

Growth vis-a-vis the amount of effort does not match in certain groups. Long release cycles could delay promos. Large pay discrepancy within the same level.

Pros

Salaries are ok Benefits were at one time great, but they are getting cut each year 2 of the best managers that I have had in my career have been at Microsoft The products Microsoft creates are incredible

Cons

The bad managers I have had are really bad Senior management changes direction frequently and not all senior management is on the same page Reorgs are constant so growing your career can be very difficult Work/Life balance is little more than a frequent conversation but not realistic to the workload

Pros

MS is only a brand name company that everybody is trying to enter. Your first year is honeymoon period, after that you'll find a very toxic work environment. You are constantly push to advance in level.

Cons

Its not about what you know and how much you do, your performance depend on your relationship with your boss and your skip level boss. Play soccer or go on a vacation with your boss, then you'll get promoted. If not, then you have to transfer to another position where you can brown nose your boss.
