A company that actually seems to care

Pros

A finance industry company that seems to genuinely value diversity and have a desire for it to be an equitable place to work. While they can’t always change things management do seem to want to listen to what employees want. Hours reflect a better work life balance than working for a bank.

Cons

It’s a heavily regulated financial company so there is bureaucracy and antiquated systems both in management and work processes, though they do seem to want to improve. Compensation reflects the lower hours/demands than working at a bank.

Lack of work life balance

Pros

Flexible workplace and hours, colleagues are generally nice and very experienced. If you love research and heavy data collation, this is a place for you.

Cons

1. No work life balance - expect to have late night emails/meetings, short turnaround time, no personal time or your personal time is not important to anyone in the company even though this has been advocated in Moody's for some time. 2. Always have no bonus expectation - doesn't matter if the company is performing well or not, the management will always have a new reason why your bonus is not going to be well. 3. Despite allocating more budget to promote racial equality and gender equality, our management tend to look at the problems in US' lens. But this is quite normal for US firms. 4. Promotion is slow and vague, despite expecting you to have unhealthily high workload because the management refused to hire more staff, there is no equal compensation or promotion opportunities 5. Admin work will drown you to a point that you have no time to learn real credit risk assessments. 6. Overly customer centric and ignoring employees' well being.

Pros

Decent benefits, pay is average, 16 weeks of maternity leave, unlimited sick days, flex time, if needed. Many different nationalities to make up a diverse group. The Moody's name is strong, so if you need a good company on your resume, work here.

Cons

No communication from the top-down. No one is clear on strategic objectives, goals, or where the company is going. Leadership berates employees when mistakes are made, very political, promotions are based on relationships and not talent. Employees are hired and promoted if they are friends with upper management without the proper skills or experience to be in their position. The culture of politics and the poor example that leadership sets for how they treat their people makes for a toxic workplace. People in certain areas are disgruntled and disengaged. Other back-end areas are allowed to get things done at their leisure which makes internal employees suffer. The senior leadership needs emotional intelligence training, experience, and to be more organized for people to respect them and take them seriously. There is no mobility or career advancement. The Omaha, NE office is a strange place to work.
