Pros

Upper level managment does not mess too much with day to day operations so you can do what needs to be done to get the job done

Cons

The keep firing people and not hiring. Slow brain drain while the rest are over worked. It's clear what is happening. Upper level managment buying more and more companies to inflate stock value. They sell the max stock the can sell every quarter. They then glut the inside of everything they purchase. When the house collapses they are rich and we are unemployed.

Great Benefits at Nuance, but easy to get ignored

Pros

The benefits at Nuance are pretty awesome. For instance, the fact that they reimburse for continuing education (with the condition you recieve an A in the course) is pretty nice. It provides you with some possibly upward mobility. However, that mobility is nearly impossible at Nuance itself because many employees feel ignored. Being ignored has it's pros. For instance even during deadlines, management may forget to check up on you. The employee stock purchase program is pretty awesome. Not only is it a great way to save money but it provides some incentive for the employee to achieve company goals.

Cons

Besides seeing your stock going up in price, there really isn't a lot of rewards given to employees for acheiving anything. Many people in the HR department need to take some human-resource education courses themselves. They constantly screw things up, and then get very angry when you confront them. Maybe they are overworked, I'm not sure. The worst part of working for Nuance is right now they have frozen all merritt raises, yet every single week they manage to aquire a new company. I understand that aquisitons and company growth are important to a company's success, but a little attention to current employees and their conditions should be first priority. Me and many of my colleagues haven't received a raise in years! However our performance reviews were all very good. It's dissapointing to get emails every week from senior management that exude excitement over the newest company they bought out, when you are struggling to pay your increasing taxes and energy costs.

Pros

Incredible technology with very little competition in the market place. A strong Middle management that is very concerned with their employees health and well being.

Cons

Unfortunately these same middle managers are hobbled at every step due to senior management policies. Managers seem to have no ability to resolve any issues or concerns, other than to communicate them to higher management. Some issues have been outstanding for many years now due to the inability to gain an answer from upper management. Communication inside as well as between departments is extremely lacking and policies/product offerings that directly affect processes in place are not well communicated. There is to much of a focus on top down management that doesn't allow any room for flexibility. An example is the travel policy is very stringent and for employees who have to travel very often it will greatly affect their quality of life. From the sales perspective Nuance's biggest losses result from an internal contracting process that has caused many customers to walk away from deals that had already received budget approval.
