Pros

Very intelligent colleagues and clients. Management flexibility with respect to work/life balance. Opportunity to work with some of the latest technologies.

Cons

Nuance is a name lifted from one of ScanSoft's acquisitions. ScanSoft itself was the name of a division at Xerox which a company called Visioneer acquired. Visioneer has not stopped. Entire unrelated groups, working on the same or competing technologies, or working on technologies that have no relationship at all, are all under the Nuance umbrella now, and while it may make sense to senior management, it just doesn't to many of the rank and file. The firm deliberately has no official mission statement. This is an acquisition machine; whatever you're working on, it's only this month's toy, and in a year will represent an increasingly small amount of revenue to Nuance, because of the newer acquisitions the company has since made.

Pros

Decent compensations. Some very smart employees. The company has a lot of cool technology lying around from all the acquisitions, although it doesn't know how to use it.

Cons

Execs are clueless as far as the technology is concerned. Every quarter they chase the numbers and declare every quarter as "the most important quarter of your lives". The company is extremely bureaucratic and unable innovate organically, which is why they keep buying competitors. Many managers at all levels just play politics and hide their incompetence behind clever scheming. Top management doesn't have the skills to judge what is actually going on.

Pros

Leader in the industry, successful as a business. Technology is interesting and benefits many different types of people from handicapped people to doctors.

Cons

Overabundance of managers, mostly unqualified workers who were promoted to management in spite of being untrained and unskilled as managers. Constant acquisitions and layoffs instills paranoia in the workforce. A never ending desire to please investors leads to rushed low-quality product releases followed by rushed patches.
