Pros

None I can think of except working from home.

Cons

Voice recognition is not all it is cracked up to be. Sometimes you take longer "editing" a report then you would just typing it straight. Sometimes you practically have to retype an entire report, it comes in so bad. But you still get the same measly pay, unless you send email asking for ST pay on that report. You get "used to" your TM, then she leaves and you get another. Communication is not that great. The "new and improved" pay scale was nothing but a joke, designed to make sure you can't reach the top level of pay -- if you do this it increases, if you do this it decreases -- etc. Say "use QA," then you get penalized for using QA.

Pros

Flexible work hours and adaptable working arrangements in most groups. Management understands, and is willing to accommodate to, changing family situations to offer employees a good work-life balance. Exciting, cutting-edge products that make a difference in millions of lives around the globe (in healthcare, customer service, automotive, home entertainment, etc.). Smart, highly-educated, helpful colleagues all around the world who usually get things done together quickly and efficiently, despite the geographical distance. Lots of opportunity to learn new things. Taking courses and educating oneself is strongly encouraged. There are always presentations, discussions and talks to attend about several interesting topics. An exciting and useful place to work for someone who is just starting their career, but also interesting enough (partly due to the many changes in the fast-paced world of tech) for those who stay for many years. Multi-cultural and multi-lingual. As an immigrant, I feel at home at Nuance.

Cons

Like in most big companies, certain processes and changes take a long time to happen. There is always much more bureaucracy in big companies than small start-ups. But on the other hand, big companies can give a different, more stable setting for innovation, experimenting, and learning. Having worked in both, I can see that both have pros and cons.
