Pros

Work from home, and that's it.

Cons

They expect perfection, but won't pay for it. They try to motivate the MLS by telling them that the patients' lives are in our hands with our accurate typing of their records, but they pay us like we are serving hamburgers somewhere. I am an experienced MLS and have done it for 20 years. I am paid the same as those with little to no experience. In addition to that, a bad or inconsiderate dictator can determine what my hourly wage is. The speech engine is horrible. Depending on the dictator, you have to edit almost every other word and cannot take your hands off the keyboard. It makes the same exact mistakes over and over and over. If it cannot understand what is dictated, it puts in non-sensible words that are ridiculous. I can type it faster with less effort, but they use the speech engine so they can pay the employees half the wage. I started as part time with the idea I would move to full time at a later date, but I am so exhausted after 4 hours, there is no way I could possibly do another 4. After all my hard 4 hours of work, I can barely make minimum wage. It is very disheartening and I would rather work a non-skilled job making minimum wage than work for Nuance.

Pros

At this time, I can't think of anything positive about this company.

Cons

Nuance is the new Grinch. Two weeks before Christmas 2012, Nuance notified employees of major changes involving pay cuts, time clock, new QA standards, and on and on. It is a well-known fact that transcriptionists, while they are the backbone of these large nationals, are grossly underpaid and then they get handed a cut in pay just before Christmas. I wonder how much of a cut management got? Thank God I'm old enough to retire from this profession that I love after 25+ years.

Pros

People are nice Compensation on par with industry Flexible hours Not overloaded with formal processes which helps innovation Free soda and popcorn Foosball and ping pong in the cafeteria gives a nice break in the day

Cons

As Nuance is an acquire-then-slash-and-burn megaplex, the hallways are filled with the sad faces of the beaten survivors of previous acquisitions. Products will ship on time regardless of quality. Regular layoffs. Everything is tied to quarterly financials, no vision beyond that.
