Pros

Nice building. Semi-interesting projects. I worked for a smaller company that was bought out by Nuance. That company had a great start-up vibe: developers interested in the work and passionate about the intellectual challenges of software development. Even the managers at that time (project, product, program, etc.) were fairly invested in their work, their team members, and the companies. Then came the buyout...

Cons

Bureaucratic, indifferent management. Requests for opportunities to expand skill set on the job always denied.

Pros

Interesting technologies, mostly based on speech recognition (Dragon), some cutting-edge. Most development teams allow at least part-time telecommuting. Decent benefits.

Cons

Everything depends on what team you're in. Some are great, some are terrible. Nuance has no corporate culture of its own to speak of, the company has grown through mergers and acquisitions (sometimes that seems to be their business model). There's not nearly enough cooperation between product teams, and sometimes outright hostility. Corporate politics is brutal within mid-to-upper management.

Pros

Good people trying to do good things. Interesting set of problems to work on. Flexibility.

Cons

Loud, open facilities that are not suited to the work being done nor the distributed team structure. Nearly impossible to get decent hardware.
