Pros

Good name on resume - helps with impressing recruiters (but not always companies). Depending on group, opportunity to learn.

Cons

Extremely political - competence is not basis for future - like most companies, true. Some promotion by attrition - easiest candidate gets the position, regardless of skill.

Pros

Work/Life balance and medical benefits are excellent. It was close to home for me, so commute was plus. The company offers stability compared to small/mid size company in the bay area. It's a good place to start your career but not a great place to stay for more than 2-3 years.

Cons

Lack of opportunity for advancement of one's career. No concrete process in place to measure performance and compensation against competition.

Pros

Touches almost every section of the market. If you're part of dev, it can be quite stable and there's lots of technology to play with.

Cons

Politics, if you aren't part of the right little circles, forget it. Not good trickle down of information. Not easy to figure out _how_ things get done unless you can find someone who knows someone.
