Pros

The best things about working for Oracle was gaining experience from a major software giant and having that experience listed on my resume. Oracle on your resume is very impressive. I also feel that the pay was competitive and the benefits were the best around. Great medical insurance and if you work at HQ--a fantastic campus.

Cons

For me, the main downside of working at Oracle was the lack of cohesiveness within the company. I felt very disconnected from other parts of the company. I was in Development, but felt detached from other product teams that supported our product. I feel that management in general is good, but my department was very secretive. Communication was not the best.

Pros

Smart employees, some very nice people in the lower ranks. challenging business problems to solve with software

Cons

Working on financial products at Oracle requires depth of business knowledge and a strong skill set, but senior management treats employees like numbers. Before I left I didn't have a raise for 6 years (I was paid 25% below market but my managers explained they had to give the salary pool to others who were paid even less). I also gave notice right when they were awarding bonuses, I had a stellar performance review and they completely yanked my bonus. (I was not surprised). Promotions are often awarded based on aggression rather than skill. HIghly political. The company is not at all innovative. If they had a successful app development strategy they never would have had to spend $5B to buy companies like Peoplesoft and Seibel. They should have won that space.

Pros

Oracle is a big, well-recognized, company with offices all over the world. It also has a lot of opportunities within the company that people can transfer between job functions. Oracle is a leader in most, if not all, the products in the market, and it acquired a lot of its competitiors in the last few years. Employees are working on the best products and technology, leveraging a lot of these from its acquired companies. Besides, Oracle has a wide range of customers from Fortune 100 companies to small or medium-sized companies. Thus, employees know they are building the best products out there serving the biggest companies.

Cons

Oracle offers very low compensation packages and provides very little career advancement guidance for employees. Managers are not well-trained to lead teams, and have very inconsistent practices on promotion.
