Pros

I loved the culture at Sun. Sure it was confusing, changing, and difficult to keep track of things, but we all pitched in and we all shared the benefits or pitfalls. A lot of that culture persists but it's fading.

Cons

Sun had an egalitarian ethos. Oracle's culture is definitely authoritarian. The compensation scheme is manipulative in the extreme: in good years, one person per group gets a raise; we're all supposed to claw over each other to be the designated "hero". Otherwise you get bupkis even if you're good. Compared to Google, Facebook, or even Salesforce, it's a trap. The morale of the Sun division's workers is eroding year by year.
