Onshape Education - good benefits, organization lacking
Pros
Great compensation, work/life balance (can't speak for others), solid benefits package. Onshape is a really cool product. At best, engagement with teachers who enjoy your product and services is fulfilling. Friendly teammates. Opportunities to take on your own projects and have autonomy over your work if you take initiative. Summer fridays.
Cons
Interviewed with direct manager and assumed would be working for her upon hiring; on day one learned that another manager was hired between us. Not very transparent from a job-search perspective. Onboarding was near-absent (big emphasis on "learn as you go" but you mostly learn that there's simply no process or accountability for many tasks). Constantly delayed on projects due to lack of institutional knowledge on common practices, resources, or tools. Misled regarding relative time spent on different job tasks, ultimately spent most of time chasing trial conversion deals from leads that unimpressive sales team "qualified". KPIs and metrics of success were wildly unrealistic and underlying assumptions not justified at any point. Requested commission/bonus when realized how much of work was sales, but goals were unattainable because I'd already closed most of my best leads, leaving me far fewer opportunities to win during goal period. Nepotism and mediocrity tolerated/overlooked regularly. Finally, after strong performance for an entire year, laid off during November purge with absolutely no notice nor option to seek other roles.
