Pros

Some of the relationships you build with your clients as a payroll specialist make your job a bit more tolerable.

Cons

Pay is horrible for the amount of work you put in. Lied to from the beginning, was told you would be able to "senior" (go through training) at your own pace, that was a lie. You are constantly rushed through your training because supervisors want to get a bonus. Work load is outrageous due to people constantly quitting. Management barely knows how to do payroll them self let alone answer any of your questions. You're basically on your own unless you have some friendly knowledgeable teammates who don't mind putting their load of work aside to assist you. No home/work balance.

Pros

Benefits are ok, most employee's are great to work with.

Cons

TOO many to list. Pay is way to low for what they ask of you. Management is horrible! Instead of bonuses for doing great they give the employees a jeans day and act like they just filled the presents under the christmas tree! Annual raises are a joke. Not even a cost of living increase. I worked there for 5 years and only made a couple of bucks more an hour than brand new temps they would hire. Annual raises are between 0-5% but never heard of anyone ever getting higher than a 3.7%. With no bonuses and no profit sharing that's just a slap in the face. They will definitely give out 0% raises, but never 5%'s! Management is completely 2 faced and will throw you under the bus any chance they get. They don't care about the "lil guy" because we're just pee ons to them who help them make bigger bonuses! We never get praise for doing good, but always get in trouble when something goes wrong. They even terminated 20+ temps because they said our service levels were "too good", and people calling in should have to wait. Management and Sales people are the only people who make big money yet its the other positions who keep the clients happy.

Pros

Good Benefits, Nice team environment

Cons

Paychex desperately lacks transparency in nearly every way imaginable. Corporate initiatives get rolled out without explanation, KPIs are assigned with very subjective measurement and no clear connection to corporate or department goals, individual service silos will completely change their service models without informing the other steak holder silos in the company, senior managers of business units deliver tone deaf messages of corporate strategies that do nothing to serve the needs of clients. Paychex has become fixated on pleasing Wall Street investors which has translated into sacrificing long term successes for very short term gains; this in turn translates into low salaries and increasing workloads for field operations employees, while sales teams get handsomely rewarded for deals that promise short term revenue with long term problems.
