Learned a lot but at a cost!

Pros

The company is relatively stable and the compensation is fair. The environment is challenging and expectations high so this is definitely an experience that will sharpen you. In general you will work with some of the top people in their fields.

Cons

The work-life balance is all theory and not practice. No one has a proper work-life balance. You are expected to work, work, work! It can be extremely political as you see employees that have relationships with certain leaders benefit from those relationships and shoot to the sky from a career perspective, only to see them fall when leadership changes.

Pros

The pay is good but oddly is heavily weighted towards salary instead of bonus. If you make friends with partners you will keep a steady stream of work, which is key. You can get as much work and get involved in as many things as you like, which gives you more exposure.

Cons

pwc is an up or out firm, no matter how they try to deny it. The forced grading on a curve ensures that some are forced into ratings that aren't necessarily accurate because they need to meet the arbitrary curve. one of the moments that sticks out to me most: at a director's meeting, an executive got up and talked about how its not important to be home to tuck your kids in bed at night or to be at every soccer game. According to him, being a parent, and what your kids remember are the "milestone moments" like when he rented out the dallas cowboys stadium for his kid's birthday. Sorry- being a parent IS about being there for all the small moments.

Pros

PwC's "brand" is remarkably high and it brings in a lot of remarkable "catalyst" hires from industry and government.

Cons

The problem with PwC and catalyst hires is that the firm has no real way of utilzing them or properly integrating them into practice groups. Other directors and below resent new personnel coming in at their level or above, potentially taking promotion chances away from them. Work life balance is non-existent in the hunt for the almighty dollar. SMEs are sucked dry of information, but not given origination credit or billable hours, and then discarded. And permeating the culture of the firm is an often unwarranted arrogance of "we're the best."
