Pros

Excellent possiblities to grow professionally. Encouragement from superiors to take on new responsibilities. Good daily working atmosphere, and relatively young colleagues. Internal education program is well established, and the benefit of getting the external CPA education paid.

Cons

In general for all big 4 companies long working hours in busy season. Budget constraints lead to high pressure in daily work. Focus is very much on billable hours. Due to the size of the company downside of becoming more and more a number. The company gets quite stingy at times. Wage increases were moderated, and expenses too tightly controlled.

Pros

Working at PwC will open many doors of opportunities once you decided to move on to a different career path (not in public accounting). One greatest thing about working with PwC is that you will be constantly learning from one day to another. Your salary will increase approximately from 20 – 40% once you jump to another company. If you leave PwC when you are a Manager, you could even be a Controller for a private company, a Controller for VC etc your opportunities are unlimited. Basically, the longer you can stay working at PwC the better there are opportunities for you when you leave.

Cons

The work hours can be very long depending on the assignment that you get. One time I was on a restatement and I would have to work at least 12 midnight everyday and all the weekends for 4 months straight, in other works there are, no work life balance at PwC. Also, you would be expected to travel as far as fifty miles to your client from your base office and in a few occasions you will be require traveling out of states for an audit. Every time you are at a new client you should also expect to work with a new team (new seniors, new managers, new partner etc).

Pros

The opportunities for professional development are excellent, the people are high quality, and the work is interesting and challenging. The training at PwC is top-notch, the knowledge base there is excellent and if you want to learn, there are so many opportunities to do this. The firm has such a wide range of specialty areas that you can pursue any number of careers, all while working for the same company.

Cons

The work/life balance could still be better, but it has come a long way. The firm has tried very hard to implement programs to help its people have more personal flexibility, but these programs still require the support of the partners supervising others, and this is a slow process of change. The "Big 4" still remain the place to work if you'd like to enjoy great rewards, but this still comes with the trade-off of long hours and a relatively stressful environment.
