Pros

Recognize talent and willing to help employee continue to develop their career. Great work life balance. Will pay for 1x OT whenever OT is needed. Most .com doesn't pay for OT but work 60 hours a week.

Cons

Some managers use their position as stepping stone and don't watch for the best interest of people under them. Upper manager doesn't realize or maybe not willing to admit that a lot of people take the section manager route just to get their promotion without proofing themselves. Everyone is aware of this which is such for engineer who really contribute to the success of the company.

Pros

Variety of work assignments Potential to travel (if you like that) Variety of locations that Raytheon has a presence (if you want to transfer within Raytheon) Pay is competitive Benefits are extremely hard to beat

Cons

Ugly building. No emphasis placed on comfort, acoustics or aesthetics of work environment Outdated technologies (programming languages, tools) Incompetent front-line management. Very self-absorbed and focused on protecting their own image, too technical-minded, not focused on employee retention, too many employees to supervise does not allow them to focus on individual employees Culture of FEAR and threats to motivate people Rewards only go to people involved in growth opportunities As a new engineer, you have virtually NO control over which project you are placed on. Based on luck you may get layed off due to a project ending or being cancelled. You MUST bust your butt on every task you are assigned Culture of working lots of overtime in Software Engineering. Almost like a competition. Makes you feel guilty for taking time off to maintain a decent work/life balance. Supervisors don't care Processes are paid lip service, but projects really work very independently and don't use common tools or processes all that much Extreme fear of risk-taking and super-strong focus on EVM kills most of the creativity and entrepreneurial thinking that anyone comes into the building with Lots of stove-piping and fighting between functions Estimates are arbitrarily hacked down to fit customer's "bogey" budget Culture of working overtime means limited availability of SMEs
