Pros

Raytheon provides an even environment under which to develop a strong career in the defense industry. By this, I mean the hours are very regular and the work is constructive in building technical abilities and long standing skills. Projects are often rewarding with a strong mix of technical fields. There are many opportunities to work with various technical disciplines to give you a very strong overall picture of the final products in development.

Cons

Because of the natural pace of the defense industry, Raytheon has a significant amount of politics and bueracracy at the higher levels. As with all companies, it must be dealt with and managed appropriately. However, due to the higher levels of employee retention, old politics tend to play a larger role than in other companies.

Pros

Only defense work available in Indianapolis. Regarding potential earnings, one would be better off working for one of the subcontractors that sub to RTSC Indianapolis: Northrop Grumman and SAIC.

Cons

1. No technical career path available 2. Promotions take years and pay scale flattens after 5 years 3. This environment can be frustrating for intrapreneurs - fast movers

Pros

Raytheon has given me a chance to prove myself and get promoted. Sure there are differences in various managers in different departments on both the functional and program side, but I think that if you prove yourself, management will notice. They have noticed me and treated me very well. I've been contacted by other companies, but at this time, I'm happy with Raytheon because of the way they've promoted me and noticed my hard work.

Cons

You're in the defense business and if your're new to it then dealing with security is going to be long and painful. Everything moves VERY slow because of security and various processes. If you work on DoD Secret or even higher, get ready to lose your cell phones at work, and maybe even get cut off from the outside world for most of the day. Also, you can be on overhead for a while if you aren't immediately placed in a program. But once you are, things are good.
