Pros

Good starting salary. Reimbursement for educational expenditures. Job stability - no layoffs. Interns get full benefits; this includes paid vacation, 401k matching, and insurance. Intern pay is based solely on academic level: incoming freshman - $15 / hour ; incoming sophomore - $17 / hour ; incoming junior - $22 / hour ; incoming senior $25 / hour. Starting salaries are based on a formula including what school your degree is from, what GPA you have, and what experience you have. Minority status also seems to be included. Former interns are given job offer preference, but they are not given higher starting salaries than other people.

Cons

Low salary growth. Insignificant promotion raises. You get paid more if you start off with a masters degree than if you earn one while working at Raytheon.

Pros

If you like a low workload, this is the place for you. The people seem very nice. This is a great place to get started working and learn basic coding skills. Popcorn on wednesdays.

Cons

There is no interesting work, especially if you are new to the division. All work here is maintenance work, no new development. I have not done any design work or coding really at all in the 6 months I have been here. Thus far I have fixed bugs and written documentation. When I've tried to change this situation, I have been told by my management that I have to stay doing nothing (sorry "writing" documentation) because now they have money and need to spend the money. I am not a special case here, this happens to most ALL new employees coming in. Software engineering is 15-20 years behind the commercial industry. I'm talking basic techniques and tools here.

Pros

You basically get to choose your own hours. Unless there is a meeting in the morning you are not required to show up at a certain time as long as you get your eight hours in for the day and your work done. This place is very flexible when it comes to work and life balance. People are also generally very easy going and easy to get along with.

Cons

As a software engineer it is not very challenging. There is also a lot of paperwork when it comes to software development. The software development is also not at all agile, there is no "test first" mentality. It is just "fix first" test later mentality.
