Pros

The general population in the engineering department is nearing retirement. While there are still some talented employees, a motivated new person hire can run circles around them. The general short-term nature of projects in comparison to other Raytheon business units allows engineers to see the entire process quickly - making advancement and growth easier to obtain than other business units. Management is very responsive to employees who do good work and are looking to grow. The relative size of most programs makes it easy to stand out.

Cons

RTSC does not get the same benefits (profit sharing, holidays) as the rest of Raytheon. Training budgets are smaller, so employees looking to grow need to do some work on their own time. Pay at RTSC is less than similar positions at other Raytheon Business Units. RTSC's low cost structure results in a relatively flat management structure, making this a difficult place to bridge from engineer to manager. Product development spending is light, which makes it easy to shine if you do work on your own, however, this is not the place to work if you are a research oriented engineer.

Pros

For those who have a desire to learn, Raytheon is a great place to be. There are plenty of classes taught by company experts, reimbursement for off-campus degrees, online resources, and good old-fashioned mentoring. There are many opportunities to be found for career advancement if you look in the right places.

Cons

Like any large organization, it can be tough to deal with several layers of management. Raises and promotions are highly dependent on the group you work with and can give individuals very different experiences.

Pros

- Fairly stable and low pressure work environment. - Opportunities for young engineers to advance, as overall population ages. - More vacation days than most other jobs.

Cons

- Not much advanced tech--even the few ECs / IRADs are limited to IT integration. - People are too overwhelmed by everyday work to think long term, both technically and strategically. - As a result, it's hard to get people excited on new technologies or approaches. People fail to communicate. - Too much bureaucracy. - Executives seem unapproachable.
