Pros

As a placement student in R&D I was fortunate to have a very supportive manager in the KY/Durex team who gave me a lot responsibility in running stability trials, designing formulations and planning projects. However, before I starting working in this team my previous team was disbanded just a couple of months into my placement, and just months after to team had been formed. On that basis: Pros - fast paced: the company carry out projects and develop products very quickly and this makes for a very exciting and dynamic environment. I was able to see a project from feasibility to industrialisation in the year I was there. - generally friendly work atmosphere. - any unnecessary bureacracy that does exist is easy to get around.

Cons

- constant structural reorganisation in some areas can hinder progress.

Pros

Big Brands and well known company. Company shop and canteen

Cons

Experienced managers are made redundant and replaced with incompetent and inexperienced younger people. Cost cutting is top of mind for managers, customer service team is thinned out and 3 people are expected to do work that was done by 5 people previously. No support for new staff, poor training and constant pressure and criticism from top. Managers hide behind HR to throw criticism and are unable to handle staff that question their unrealistic expectations. Communication is only from top down, constructive feedback from staff is frowned upon. One can be put into performance management or even shown the door if show concerns about the workload. Only go here if you have no life commitments and are happy to work 10 hr days and live under constant stress, pressure and back stabbing.
