Don't work in Irvine

Pros

The people at the company are phenomenal. They are the best group of people that I have ever had the honor of working with. Highly intelligent, caring, and fun loving.

Cons

Company is reducing their foot print in Irvine. They don't say it, but everyone knows that Sage will eventually leave Irvine. Also, the company makes too many changes too quickly resulting in frustrated customers and employees.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, we agree that our people are amazing - we work hard and play hard! We are still recruiting in Irvine and it's a strategically important centre for Sage. We regularly gain feedback from our customers to gain their insights and act upon them too. Recently we've just undertaken a global colleague survey and held focus groups based on the feedback to really understand the issues. The feedback/plan will be shared at the FY18 kick-offs in October. Thanks again for your review.

Trying, but failing

Pros

They want to be innovative and disruptive and I think that they genuinely believe in what they say (vs it being PR driven). They are trying to change the business and bring it into the modern world (cloud, One Sage). Lots of good work with Sage Foundation (CSR). Good benefits, offices are fitted out nicely and on the whole people are nice to work with.

Cons

Company is not structured well enough to actually deliver the innovative ideas; people don't understand the vision or what the framework is to deliver it. I know they are working on it, but still very siloed which in turn means people are not able to look at the bigger picture, even if they want to. Huge lack of communication and understanding of what's going on outside of their immediate world. There is a big culture of middle management being bullish and laying down the law vs leading the company through tough times of change. Have heard conversations of 'if they don't like it, they can leave' which in my opinion is appalling. People are being empowered to make decisions (which is good), but in practice is creating a nasty hierarchical culture.

Thanks for your comments, which are valuable for people outside the company but especially inside it. It would help the company mature in its leadership and organizational mission if such suggestions and feedback are shared with leaders, so if you feel comfortable to do so, please talk with your manager and your HR business partner for help communicating your ideas more broadly. Sage needs each and every one of its colleagues to be an agent of change. We recently circulated an employee engagement survey to capture this kind of feedback for our leadership so hopefully you had a chance to also respond to that. We appreciate your insight and hope you can be part of making Sage a better place. Thanks again for your review.

Employees treated like a commodity

Pros

Nice office space, good coffee and colleagues

Cons

Where to start! There is an absolute culture of bullying within the organisation with no support. It's quite normal to see people crying in the halls and bathrooms. There is a constant change in leadership and direction every couple of weeks. Sage have lost a VP, 2 x Sales Directors, a Customer Success Director and 2 x customer success managers in one department in the space of 18 months. Management style is to ignore success and concentrate on failures no matter how small. The company values and culture look great on paper but are completely ignored throughout the organisation

Thanks for taking time to write your review. Its true there have been some management changes and we feel now the team is set up for success. Management has been restructured within the team to allow for better communication, with internal promotions of Team leaders. We are delighted to promote from within Sage and give our talented individuals the opportunities to progress their careers. We celebrate success every day and our proud of our progress! As we listen to our people's concerns, we felt a colleague forum was needed in Dublin, so we created The Kaizen team. This has been operating for a couple of months now and are open with feedback. We will share your feedback with them as they endeavour to voice concerns. We truly believe we have some very talented people that are working closely together with management to make Sage a great place to work. Thanks again.
