Avoid the Lure

Pros

Salesforce used to be a much better company until around 2021. People frequently work overtime and inefficiently, but at least they used to be compensated accordingly and had some job security. That's not the case anymore. Also, fast pace helps you learn faster in less time. Employment there also looks good on your resume since the company still has a good reputation. If there is one thing this company does really well, that is marketing: Things have a well-polished look, which lures both the employees and clients.

Cons

As someone who worked at different orgs during my tenure there, I can confidently tell that Salesforce is a very disorganized company (their excuse is that they have "the startup culture"). 2-3 reorgs every year (which can eliminate your role), unclear responsibilities, unbelievably immature systems and managers (i.e. lack of experience and integrity), and a feeling of fakeness that permeates through the entire company.

Going downhill fast

Pros

The company has a great reputation and the product offering is well received. Lots of flexibility to work from home, although they are currently trying to get more people back into the office. The office is really nice. Solid training (both a blessing and a curse, lots of ongoing mandatory training whether you are seasoned or not). They continue to innovate, which is always a plus.

Cons

Where to start--thousands and thousands of people laid off in the last 6 months with thousands more to come this year. Entire departments were wiped out with no rhyme or reason. Massive amounts of technical and client expertise gone makes for an unstable environment. Morale is low, and people are now voluntarily leaving in droves. Management is stressed out, leading to extreme micromanagement. The company preaches about Ohana and how we are all family but they have no problem kicking really talented "family members" to the curb. Perhaps job openings will be out there due to the mass exodus, but I'd be very leery to join.

Pros

The only thing that comes to mind is the health insurance, 401k, and education benefit.

Cons

The company is based on making yourself seen, playing “the game”, great for politicians. If you want to do exceptional work, contribute, make a difference for clients and colleagues, prepare to be disappointed because that isn’t what is recognized or rewarded at Salesforce. Very disappointing. They sparkle on the outside, but it’s very dark on the inside.
