Pros

- Has high reputation among common Koreans (meaning any people outside the industry) - High Compensation (around 45K as beginning salary)

Cons

Samsung C&T and any other Korean trading company is a copy from Japan's Shogo Shosha. Originally C&T's role was to import/export all of Samsung products. With this, the company served as the brain of the entire conglomerate. However, after the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, Lee Gun Hee decided to allow all Samsung companies to conduct import/export on their own. C&T lost its main role, and most of the essential employees left the firm, which exactly explains the company's decline since. Now the company is a commodity trader with less than 1% of net profit rate. I worked on complex Excel sheets to predict the company's profit for 2020 August and, believe it or not, without backing this up with ANY strategy. The company is 75 years old and has some serious mis-guided culture.

Pros

Looks good on the CV

Cons

Work experience is average since seniors are not too talented. Work process is not shared properly so you make mistakes and get blamed for them too. Talking to each other is discouraged. Seniors are red tape oriented and point out faults. Encouragement is rare and positive words are to be taken with a pinch of salt. Beware of spies who snitch.

Pros

Be exposed to growth ,innovation and be challenged personally. They recruit the best talent from the Enterprise market and you benifit from this peer experience.

Cons

Every subsidary of Samsung is totally Korean run. No local management have any real power. It's obvious that unless you are born Korean , they don't trust you. The culture is feudal and repressive. The talent leaves as quickly as it arrives. The engine runs on burning talent like a locamotive using coal. For all the front end innovation speak around Enterprise, Samsung has a consumer back end and it lacks experience and understanding of the needs of Enterprise market.
