Pros

Good opportunity to gain quick, high-visibility marketing experience, build your portfolio, upskill on a well-known tool, and become more competitive for marketing roles I worked on some really cool projects and learned a lot from the hands-on experience. On an individual level, I collaborated with some talented and passionate people who care deeply about their peers and their work. As a result, I made many good connections who continue to support me, although many of them have since left the company. It’s also a good place to learn about cross-cultural communication, particularly the unspoken assumptions and misunderstandings that can arise from hearing things differently. (Yes, I’d consider this one a pro in the long run, although it was difficult to deal with at times.)

Cons

The marketing department's culture is wildly inconsistent. As mentioned above, some people are creative, professional, and a joy to work with on an individual level. But leadership appears to be plagued with cliquishness and internal politics. In my personal experience, if you–or your boss–do not curry favor with certain people, you will likely have negative experiences until you are pushed out. Additionally, they seem to value results more than the individuals or teams that helped to create them, which can lead to burnout. I would also describe some of what I witnessed and/or heard about as bullying. But nothing ever seemed to be done about it, possibly because of the relative social power of the individuals involved. Marketing also describes itself as having a “feedback culture,” when my lived reality suggests otherwise. Leaders claim to be open to feedback, when in reality, they only appear capable of delivering harsh, unconstructive criticism while closing themselves off to receiving it. I’m not comfortable sharing any specific details. And my experience would suggest that none of it will be taken seriously. Nevertheless, I hope that the organization takes steps in the right direction to foster a healthier and more accountable environment.

Stay away - toxic culture

Pros

Smart and enthusiastic global sales team. I would stay away from all teams except working as an AE within the USA market.

Cons

- Horrible HR team both in the USA and globally - HR in the USA is incompetent. They are on their own schedule and don't care having any employee wait a week in order to receive a response. They fire employees without any PIP or coaching even though they preach to ensure employees have no surprises down the road. - My manager has fired or had five team members transfer in her short time as a leader and has not been held accountable for her poor actions. - The culture is very poor and everyone is very picky. They do not know how to adapt and be strategic with any of their programs and initiatives. - Everyone talks behind each others backs, especially leadership who are not born in the USA. - Russian culture is not strategic minded, they play favoritism and talk behind your back. - When joining the company I was informed my salary would be 50k higher and when receiving an offer I was shocked. The head of recruitment said sorry, I made a mistake. They know nothing about any USA benefits and they are the head of global recruitment - what a joke! - I never received a welcome packet or swag even though everyone else on the team has this - except for USA HR. - Pay is below average and they do not offer bonus only after a year if they deem appropriate. This should already show employees they don't invest in a new hire until they are proven which is a horrible approach.

Bunch of lies

Pros

The people that are in the US offices are great friends and awesome to work with.

Cons

I worked here and I can tell from these comments and the recent dates that these are all BS just to get their rankings up. You can tell by the dates and all the same locations....I mean that makes sense though since that is what SEMrush "overseas" truly cares about. There is no such thing as company values, company culture, growth opportunities, career development talks or anything. Don't even waste your time because if you don't have a "title" you don't mean anything. Leadership, which does not include just the chief executives but all of the puppeteers over in the Russia office do not care for anyone in the US office. Which is actually sad to say. They make this very clear as they do not include the US employees in meetings, decision, or anything at that point. If you doing get the privileged to attend something of value, your "colleagues" overseas and the Leadership have a tendency of putting you down or laughing in your face and they will literally talk Russian during meetings, in the hallways, and right in front of your face. Knowing that they are pointing, smirking and talking about you. Multiple times during your work day the employees get a sense of "what am I doing wrong", "I don't get it", "am I going to get fired"...it's extremely frustrating and then you realize that the offices oversea want you to feel this way. They have the CEO in their pockets and say it is a U.S. based company but the everything is still happening overseas. The turn over is ridiculous and now that I am out, I would not recommend the experience to anyone.
