Pros

Was great 2 years ago

Cons

My job was "eliminated" in March, laying off several highly productive team members in this process. The rationale was that this role was eliminated in an effort to focus sales upmarket. Fast forward 2 months, now they are rehiring for the same role. Very convenient that there's been an influx of positive reviews lately.

Dear Sender, We’re sorry you had a negative experience with us. It was never our intention to leave you feeling this way. Regarding the situation you mentioned, the explanation provided to you was accurate. However, you should know that after some time, we promoted some of the colleagues who left to work with the SMB segment, which has a strict team size limit. This created a need to find replacements for those positions. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Yours, the Semrush Team

Pros

Remote, unlimited PTO, strong brand, useful valid product

Cons

Privacy violation ( a former employee left also because he/she wasn’t granted a salary increase and this person was pissed off since he/she became aware of my yearly salary blathered by someone internally!!!) Lack of organisation, toxic aggressive management with zero or low experience as managers, humiliating attitude,no proper training for managers, no proper effective fees, no proper onboarding for new hires (just a google sheet filled with links to read),word harassment, patronising attitude from the management, constant unclarity on projects (you loose you time amending your work constantly with no meaning) , toxic workload, 10 pm requests for changes, presentations and data. Weekend encouraged extra workload if you haven’t managed during the week. Not inclusive: many internal docs and tools are still in Russian (Semrush it’s a former Russian startup) now listed in the US but many employees are Russians or Russian speakers! You really feel lack of inclusivity. High turnover, mandatory NDA if they fire you out of the blue (it happened to a professional I know). I literally left running! I was ver sad and overwhelmed by this toxic experience

Dear Sender, It’s disheartening to read such reviews, and we’re sorry that you had such an experience while working with us. We can assure you that all salary reviews are based on performance. Our managers regularly conduct feedback meetings and are always open to receiving feedback in return. When it comes to confidentiality: it goes without saying that it’s absolutely compulsory. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are currently our top priorities, and we are diligently working in this direction. The same applies to our onboarding process – we recognize that it can be improved, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Such detailed feedback is of the highest value to us. Let’s remain on friendly terms no matter what. Wishing you the best of luck in your future endeavors! Yours, Semrush Team

Just Don’t Do It

Pros

Good product with a name people know. The brand recognition is the only redeeming factor of working on the sales team here. They flew us out to Dallas for SKO.

Cons

10% on average hit quota in Mid-market and their fix is to introduce quarterly quotas. Mid-market is losing people faster than it can bring in. Benefits are poor compared to most other comparable SaaS companies. Don’t expect an ESPP, home office set-up allowance (was $200 but they dumped that), or anything outside of insurance and 401k. They offer unlimited PTO but no quota relief at all. They used to give us 25% off a months quota once a year when we used PTO to encourage us to take a break, guess what… that’s also gone. 1 inbound lead a month, let’s hope it’s not someone asking for support. They conducted one of those “anonymous” Best Place to Work surveys and our manager confronted us about the results and why we answered the way we did. Closed multiple offices on the east coast in the last year Just don’t work here. Wait for a better sales org to come your way. Seriously don’t do it.

Dear Colleague, Thank you for your feedback. However, we would like to clarify a few points: - Competitive benefits. We offer a very competitive benefits package and continuously monitor new market trends to implement them within the company. While it’s impossible to satisfy everyone, we strive to meet the needs of all our employees. - Best Place to Work survey. This survey is conducted by an external platform, and we had no ability to control or influence employees’ responses. The survey was carried out fairly and delivered excellent results: 76% of employees consider Semrush the best place to work. - Office closures. We occasionally close offices, but please note that we provide employees with the flexibility to work from home-something not every company can offer today. - Quotas and growth. We are confident in our plans and continue to achieve steady business growth. We understand this may not suit everyone, but growth remains one of our key business priorities. If you need additional support or have more feedback to share, please reach out to your HR. We truly believe that together we can make your experience at the company as comfortable and fulfilling as possible. Yours, the Semrush Team
