Pros

Teammates were very helpful and nice to work with.

Cons

Management over the content department went through leadership changes almost 2 weeks into the new role. In only 4 months of being there , my supposed to be manager (who never once took the time to get to know me as a new member of her team and other than onboarding, never had a 1:1 meeting or chat with me) decided I wasn't worth her time. I can go into all of the work and extensive training I did with them, but to keep it short, any time she did schedule a meeting, it was only to give lengthy and harsh feedback to a very short work time. You don't ever want to work for a place where your manager(s) don't even care about you. In 15 years of work experience, this one was by far the worst.

Dear Sender, Thanks for your review. The onboarding period at Semrush can be intensive as the onboarding process typically runs in sequence with the usual work processes. We do work hard, and during this time there is extra effort put in not by just our new hire, but their teammate and manager as well. All employees here are expected to be working in the same direction from day 1 in the company. But we strive to be as honest as possible during all feedback sessions with our new employees as we believe it is critical for their growth and development. We regret you found it harsh. We’re also sorry we didn’t meet your expectations. We wish nothing but the best for you in finding an employer who will be a perfect match for you. Yours, Semrush Team

Pros

fast paced environment, some smart people, you can learn know how about the search Giant, if in luck you can develop your core skills and add some lines to your CV.

Cons

hard to believe (here) but some overseas pay was being done through e wallets meaning no tax. US office and its president is a joke, Cyprus is a gimmick. agile is one way only. everything and all is decided in Russia by a handful of people, maybe just one - Oleg is charismatic and convincing but actually deceiving, after leaving I learned about his scouts looking to sell the business in the US. high turnover hinders efficient continuity. its all kinda risky to bet your career

Pros

You'll meet amazing guys and gals among your peers. And I am incredibly grateful for that.

Cons

Reading through the list of reviews, I see how after every heartfelt one a 5 star thingy appears. And that's what prompted me to share my own experience. Cause it's is how Semrush is or was for the year I've spent there. Keeping a straight face, while collectively deciding how to handle mounting criticism or backlash in a dedicated Slack channel. There are stories from old-timers about how great the culture and the vibe were. And there's reality when old-timers are let go in one day after 8-10 years of work and dedication. They keep replying in comments that "they need to adapt for x,y,z. And that they are aimed at leading and scaling" Well, I am all for strategic decisions, which were none. It's just a mess. Multiple times you come to work for the news of a new big shiny change without any clear communication from high-ups. People got more and more frustrated. And then the fear of lay-offs with that storm has been added on top. There are mid-high managers who go around talking about greatness and unrealistic ideas of market conquering. And then there are people who work hard, trying to catch up with bloated egos and weird expectations, and then they are just thrown out. And how's that for a fact: they laid off 120 or 150 people (like 10% I guess of the workforce), including me. And the strangest part is that my direct manager was not aware of the incoming thing until it happened. How do you decide to let so many people go without even talking to those who really know what the people are doing or how they are performing? 🤷‍♂️ They just let go of those who were easier to fire cause of contracts, salaries, and other things that have nothing to do with performance (they said it themselves). AI SEO is the new priority, but they let go even those who worked on it, too. And that should tell you a lot about the company and how the things are looking there. Maybe it will change, but after a year I will not recommend it to a friend.

Dear Sender, We’re sorry to hear that you were affected by the recent changes at our company, and understand the frustration that comes with it. With the industry changing at such a rapid pace, it's essential to adapt and meet the new needs of the market. We look forward to continuing our commitment and path on leading marketers in SEO and the AI SEO space, as well as put the structure in place to build for scale. Wishing you luck in your next chapter. Yours, the Semrush Team
