Pros

They were first movers in content marketing and SEO research tool space, so the brand is very well know and if you are smart and innovative you may be able to blaze your own trail.

Cons

Management is in Russia and doesn't understand US/Western Europe value of transparency and honesty with customers and employees. The company says they're a "start-up" but that is cynical. They offer salary & benefits consistent with an old-school industry and under-funded company. However, the company is very profitable, it's been around for a long time, it does not seek high growth from external funding. It doesn't offer the perks other found in other cool start-ups. Best freebie is coffee. Expect to share a hotel room with another employee if you're sent out of town. This may have changed! It was standard practice when I was there. The top leadership in US office have no related direct experience from other company(s) and is very, very young. They challenge others with resumes of success 10+ years regarding office management and key decisions. Employee turn-over is a big problem. The company is losing ground to innovative competitors: ask any knowledgeable SEO.

Hello! We want to thank you for the time you invested in letting us know your thoughts and suggestions. It means a lot to us and we are working hard to make our company the best it can be! As you know our company has evolved very quickly over the past 9 years. Typically a start up runs about 7-10 years and with that sort of evolution, we have gone through a ton of growing pains. Some warranted, some not. As we are all human, we understand some of your concerns, and we have been working on them ever since. Our management teams have grown in all offices (including the US office) with team leads and managers that we are diligently working with on a constant bases. We try to be transparent as much as possible but sometimes we need our employee's help in shedding light on some issues that may be present. Sometimes it is hard to communicate with our fellow offices due to multiple reasons: 1.) Time Zone 2.) Language 3.) Culture 4.) Lack of face-to-face time 5.) Etc. There are many ways that we can start to understand or empathize with our fellow offices (including our own co-workers within our own office). This is something that we are taking seriously. We want our employees to feel comfortable in vocalizing their thoughts or ideas so having good leaders in our offices is important to us. This includes the US office. As the years have passed, we have been able to help improve our employees comfort levels. It is extremely important that we make our employees feel comfortable as much as possible. When our employees travel, they are able to enjoy the privacy of their own room. We moved into a much larger space where we have all departments in one area now :). Our perks have increased and are continuing to do so! Work from home availability, monthly celebrations along with month company corporate events, office enhancements, and new benefit options as well! Unfortunately along the years as you mentioned, we lost some people but we have gained some as well. Sadly, sometimes things just do not work out as planned for both sides. For those that we have hired, we are extremely hopeful and excited to see their growth within our company! If there are other things that may help us better improve our work environment, we encourage you to contact us directly. So thank you again for addressing your experience with us. We need to see/hear these things!

Pros

Developers, Analysts, and Designers are very nice to talk to

Cons

Constant hiring freezes, stock bonuses are so low it feels like an insult. New CEO is so old, not sure if he ever tried Chatgpt at all. CIO is just a fake "AI expert" without education, experience or any relevant background. CPO never speaks to a real customer, living in his dreams. Director of Analytics is a marketing specialist. Finance is just a pure mess. There are very smart and talented employees with relevant education and background, but they are mostly ignored.

Pros

remote work and a mac laptop, that is ALL.

Cons

Sales at Semrush is fundamentally broken. Unless you land in SMB with a lucky portfolio of agencies, you’re set up to struggle. And when leadership brags about “overall growth,” what they don’t tell you is that it’s isolated to a few regions and segments, while the majority of the team is left to drown. But the biggest red flag isn’t just the sales structure, it’s how the company handles criticism. Their responses here to negative reviews are textbook gaslighting: dismissive, defensive, and utterly devoid of accountability. And that’s the most telling part. The way Semrush publicly deflects and refuses feedback is exactly how they operate internally. What you see on here is a perfect reflection of how they treat their own people.

Dear Sender, Thank you for sharing your review. We understand that it’s not always possible for every cultural, project-related, or organizational aspect to be a perfect fit for everyone, and that’s totally fine. We truly appreciate your time with us and wish you the very best in your future career opportunities. Yours, the Semrush Team
