Pros

Good salary and benefits as befitting a mega corporation. Siemens has some wonderful products and even better people, but the lack of communications from upper management to the employees stinks. Maybe this comes from the German background where you are just supposed to shut up and follow orders, but it makes for a less than pleasant work experience.

Cons

Downsizing and believes in the mushroom principle (keep them in the dark and pile poop on them). Here you have great people and they are ignored. The constant specter of a division being sold or downsized demoralizes everyone. Then there is the little problem of bribes that has gotten Siemens in trouble around the world. That gets around to your customers and hurts credibility.

Pros

A very innovative company with a great brand and many very bright people. An excellent learning environment that is global in nature. If you want to get a truely global experience this is the place. You also will get in depth knowlege of sectors including Industry, Energy or Medical. The products are truely world leading. The opportunity for someone early in their career to be trained and groomed are exceptional.

Cons

Matrix structure causes it to be slow moving and its never clear who is leading the charge. Often people spend more time reporting internally the same information over and over in different formats to the various stakeholders. It is inefficient and at the end of the day, the leadership is lacking.

Pros

Good view of Hurn airport from the local office, very little else around .

Cons

The VAI group was recently acquired by Siemens mainly to remove a competitor in the metals industry. There is too much interference from head office in the way the company now operates. This is particularly evident for me in the area of technology development in which they have an insistence on maintaining control from HQ. Siemens have a very rigid career structure and many people have left as they saw no way of advancing their careers. The senior management was replaced after the acquisition and now have little contact with the general workforce. Compliance has become a major issue after several senior German employees were involved in bribery and corruption.
