Not worth your mental health

Pros

- Meal card system - Pay is ok - You can work from home sometimes - Good benefits - Met some really amazing people (who had either already quit/got fired or are suffering themselves)

Cons

The managers here micromanage the hell out of their employees. They make exceptions for employees that can kiss up to them the most. But it's basically their way or the highway; no room for differing opinions. They will also belittle you and report you for the smallest actions and mistakes, but let other employees (or themselves!) get away with the same things. It's a matter of whether they like you or not according to the boss who gossips the most. Also your sick days/wfh days are also monitored and recorded in case they need a reason not to promote you or give you a raise, and use this information to accuse you of a poor performance. Nice! HR has no interest in protecting the employees. Any complaints made about the managers are watered down and not taken seriously. Probably because they've been friends with each other for years. I expect the employees at my level to be a little more casual, but the gossip is rampant, the power playing. being quick to throwing each other under the bus, the blame games, stealing credit for others' works and ideas, and the tribalism is too real. There's bullying of all kinds of flavors here. I've been hit, shoved and insulted by an employee before (who was fired for over-stepping how long she can skip work in a day without anyone noticing) but the people here chose to turn a blind eye to this. There is little support here, it's an "all for yourself" sort of situation on this boat. The once most cheerful and brightest people in the office now sit with sullen, soulless expressions. There's a lot of mental health issues here in this office, and it's no coincidence that the environment they foster is the result of it. Raising our therapy insurance's budget isn't going to resolve the problem until we kill the root of the cause. What happened to "smart, kind and creative" again? Anyone who knows their worth are making their exit plans right now. The people who are staying are the ones who know they can't do any better.

Pros

Some really smart co-workers (who got cut in a brutal layoff ), and there is always something to learn from them. Free food ( less and less offered every day )

Cons

Lipstick on a pig, looks fine on the surface, but lots of politics underneath. Especially in very large teams where 20 people might report to one manager. Expect zero transparency from the rest of the company , especially the leadership. Since this has already been the norm for so many years, I highly doubt this culture will change once we all finally move to the "new, centralized" office in Santa Monica. This also means you might not know if a cut is coming until the day it comes! Surprise! Saw a lot of good engineers get laid off just because they were not part of their managers' favorite cliques. And then these poor folks get labeled as 'poor performers' This is what the company has evolved to over the years. Beware, for any folks who might be joining now just because of the tempting new vesting schedule(25-25-25-25). There might be more layoffs coming up! Some folks this time were cut right before their vesting date just so to save the company some money. Smart Move by Snap to break even!

Pros

-- fun people -- great comp -- huge huge huge scope -- new leadership is breathing life into the company

Cons

-- The company is run by people who a) have never done their job at a different company before b) have child-like egos. Most mean well, but it is not enough. -- Most have been promoted beyond their experience level because a combination of friendships with Evan and The Others and there being no one else. -- Leadership doesn't know what good work looks like, so their is a culture of manipulating optics and hiding problems. No one really cares. -- Evan is an absolute muppet.
