Pros

- Industry leading product that’s beloved by customers (sometimes they hug us at our annual convention!) - Interesting business problems are solved all over the world and in every industry using Tableau - Expanding product portfolio includes data prep, metadata management, in-memory database, and improving enterprise features - Rapid pace of agile innovation with quarterly releases introducing new features - Higher-quality software releases than many in the tech industry (not perfect, but release quality is solid) - Progressive, liberal corporate values for most roles - come as you are, dress as you feel comfortable (visible tattoos and pink hair OK in some roles) - it’s more about your character, productivity, customer-focus, and creativity than “how you look” here (sales and consulting roles are always going to be somewhat of an exception to this) - Colorful, fun corporate culture with company and team events, fitness challenges, and other spirit-building activities that aren’t as common at larger software companies - “Humble smart” culture of talented, intelligent people with a spirit of servitude and empowerment of each other — there is far less attitude and ego here than in many large corporate environments, and the culture is one of being willing to selflessly pitch-in

Cons

- Cash compensation is frequently below the industry norm for many roles, although some roles make up for it with RSUs - 401(k) match is below other large software vendors - Interview process can be difficult / challenging

Pros

The people at Tableau are awesome. The people I worked with were fun, thoughtful, laid-back, helpful, and smart. Company makes an effort to listen to its employees and respond to their needs. For example, they changed our quota structure after several reps and managers had shared w/ upper management about some issues we were having. Managers very receptive and responsive to feedback. Company invests heavily in your professional development. The best training I've had in my career came at Tableau. Tableau offers a lot of perks -- great company parties, team outings, regular contests, etc. Customers LOVE Tableau. It's energizing to be working for a company that customers love. It also helps in sales. Despite note hitting quota very often, I still felt like I got paid pretty well. I got a salary bump while I was there, cashed in about $3,000 in stock after the first year, and was still able to make decent commision. Benefits are great too.

Cons

This isn't necessarily a con w/ Tableau, but inside sales is brutal. The Sales Area Manager, Acquisition role (aka Account Executive) is a grind. It was hard for me to hit my quota and thus collect the amount of commission I would've liked. During my short time there, there were a lot of acquisition reps in the DC office who struggled to hit their number. But, again, upper management and the sales managers and directors did everything they could to help struggling reps meet their quotas and get paid. Me not hitting quota is not necessarily a reflection on Tableau, but I think it's important for people interested in working in sales at Tableau to be aware of.

Pros

+ Tableau provides by far and away the best medical insurance benefits I've ever had. + Casual dress code. + Free food in the kitchens. + Respect for work/life balance (no mandatory OT, flexibility with medical appointments).

Cons

+ Pay for Technical Support across the board is far below technical support industry standards. + Hiring/recruitment is now reactive instead of proactive + Recent attrition has led to likely-insurmountable morale problems.
