Pros

I work for the HomeDepot.com call center. The management is hands down the best I've ever had. Love my boss, the work hours are very flexible and MGMT is very accommodating and understanding. Decent pay, great benefits, wonderful team culture and advancement opportunities. Very easy to work from home.

Cons

The work itself is suicide-inducing. Customers are rude, disrespectful, and constantly angry. Our systems are at best confusing and at worst unusable. Company policies seem almost intentionally anti-customer at times, which leads to more anger directed our way as front-line associates. Training is forced to be full-time and lasts 4-6 weeks, and yet doesn't completely cover everything you'll need to know about how to do your job.

Pros

Large volume of clients/customers. Always busy. If you like meeting people and engaging with prospective new customers, there's a lot of foot traffic. Always new product. Great training program,

Cons

There's a lot of traffic. as a designer, sometimes serious conversations about budget or issues can be a problem when there are 10 people standing around my desk. Or just staring at you, waiting for you to be done. Lots of interruptions. Appointments people may have waited a week for will get stopped because another customer needs help with a water filter, or a dishwasher, or needs toknow where the restroom is. You are in a fish bowl. Designers do not get the respect or pay that they deserve. Therefore they have a high turnover. The needs of the business will come before your family. Period. Unless you're a single person, with no children thats willing to "Bleed Orange" dont expect to have success there. Also, the business is saturated with Nepotism. They will tell you there are no positions available and promote a regional manager's son in an advanced leadership program. There were several married couples, in supervisor roles, and Parent/child relationships with in the store I worked. The work environment and sacrafices my kids were making were too much.

Pros

Great culture, great atmosphere, lots of upward potential if you are young and under-skilled. Fantastic place for retirees or to pick up extra income. Its easy to settle in and find a groove if youre good with the Cons-below.

Cons

First and foremost - Retail pay is always poor because retail is not skill specific. No different here. Go get a skill. 2. Its hard to get noticed in such a large operation and takes awhile to start moving up. You have to be a real self-starter and push regularly to get trained and moved up. 3. The business model is typical, to minimize labor expense (#1 controllable biz expense) so run a skeleton crew and maximize the output of each producer. This pressure results in a lot of turnover. If you dont have a strong work ethic and enjoy the job, you will wash out. Especially if your still living at home and you dont really need the money. But thats retail everywhere if you ask me. HD is still your best bet if youve got the right chemistry.
