There was a lot of freedom. Learn at your own pace. If you make the right contacts it can be very beneficial for you

Cons

There was very little structure and the job got extremely boring at times. I was not permitted to go into production for atleast a year and a half

Pros

Very good developers (at least on my team), better than every other company I've worked at (except for a startup). Management had good technical knowledge, and if they didn't, were willing to defer to the developers. Somewhat agile development process.

Cons

No testers, no testing team. Estimating process was a bit of a joke at times. Mega-tight with budget for equipment sometimes - we were often short of disk space and ended up sharing resources amongst developers, which resulted in a lot of waiting.
