Pros

Working at UPS is a challenging yet rewarding experience. It is fast paced and the work is very physical, but the shifts are short and the benefits extended to even part-time employees are really good. It is a good part-time job to have during college or to supplement another job that may not offer attractive benefits. It is a great company with great people and a great product - they do logistics, supply chain solutions and package delivery better than anybody!! I wish I had never left!!!

Cons

The available package handler shifts are not flexible so one will have to work around them to go to school or hold down another job. The pay is not the greatest, but there are more skilled positions that pay more if you show some smarts and initiative, if not you can work like an ox for $8.50 an hour. Preload shift, to me, was always the most dynamic and exciting. The union can cut both ways. It can help if there are issues with management but if you work hard and keep your nose clean those should be few and far between. In my experience, the union was used as a crutch by other workers and decreased productivity. The union, due to its emphasis on seniority can create added difficulty if trying to obtain a full-time position. At least that is how it was in Tennessee. I have heard other locations have full time positions more readily available.

Pros

I feel that Job security is a huge plus in this economy and UPS will provide that as union or non union.

Cons

The stress a is high and work load never stops growing, it also takes a lot of waiting to move up within the company.
