GTSG/TSG experiences while employed at UPS for 7 years
Pros
1) Great Benefits; such as health insurance and 401k. When I was there they had a 6% match which most companies give only 3%. PTO and Vacation time were great as well. 2) Decent Pay- it could have been better but as tech I was making over $20 hourly. 3). Regulary Staff- Very friendly people to work with and at the time my colleagues were awesome, with the exception of one, but that person was cool as well. I just had philisophical differences with that person. It's very okay to agree to disagree but still work together. 4). I worked in the TSG (Technical Support Group) which had 4 different shifts. Morning (typical 9-5) Mid shift(11-7:30pm), Night (7 -3:30am) and Overnight (3am - 11:30am). The variety was great I was on MId-shift which I fell in love with especially since I wasn't a morning person.
Cons
1). Upper Executive managment - to much in the Ivory tower. Lack of Empathy for regulary Employees. Retiring upper management also contributed to this. 2). Very toxic work environment. It didn't start out that way but due to economic changes and Covid it caused lots of work issues. 3). That toxic work environment lead to mis-management by mid to lower mananagement who I reported to. 4). I worked in the TSG (Technical Support Group) which had 4 different shifts. Morning (typical 9-5) Mid shift(11-7:30pm), Night (7 -3:30am) and Overnight (3am - 11:30am). Overnight shift was horrible. I never did like it, the only silver linning was I only had to work it 7 weeks out of the year. Since I'm not a morning person, I hated Overnight shift (commonly 3rd shift) your circadian rythims were always out of balance on that shift. not good for health at all.
