Pros

Great MILITARY career - Lots of opportunity for professional development and tuition assistance. I loved the fact that I could transfer to other bases every few years and start new challenges while maintaining my level of seniority within the organization. The work you do may save lives.

Cons

This is a military career - not just a job. A certain level of self-sacrifice and selfless desire to serve your country is needed. You may experience deployments, family separation, long hours, no overtime pay, it can be problematic to get time off for school if your a shiftworker or are susceptible to exercises/deployments. You could go to war - the USAF has been in at war since 1990.

If you want to be an employee, you can't get a better job in the private sector unless you're top management

Cons

Separation from family. Limits to progression/career advancement/salary. Not for someone who'd rather have their own business than be an employee.

Camaraderie, espirit-de-corps, sense of purpose and truly great people. Compensation is good and benefits (health care, vacation and retirement benefits) are very good as well. Many opportunities to gain fromal training and actual experience in leadership and management.

Cons

The need or possibility to deploy to combat zones for extended periods.
