Pros

Definitely gave me leadership experience that many of my civilian peers do not have. The USAF is pretty good at professional development on the Support officer side. I've learned a lot about myself from the military and it has made me a better person.

Cons

Bureaucracy is a problem in the military. Sometimes Generals and Colonels forget where they come from and they make the process harder for everyone beneath them. keep in mind, this is not a meritocracy. You may be the best leader in the world, but you will still make Captain at the same time as the person that couldn't lead themselves to the water fountain. And that's almost the same for Major. if you stick around for over 12 years then maybe they will start separating the good from the bad. Even then, it's all about checking the right boxes, so you could be the best leader ever, but you haven't gotten that Master's? or worked for a General? Out of luck!

Pros

Great government benefits Good career prospects if you fit into military culture Many rules are in place to ensure that all service members are treated fairly (in theory)

Cons

A small mistake, a momentary lapse in judgement, or anything that makes you inconvenient--even if it isn't your fault--can be career-ending or land you in prison (especially for junior and/or enlisted members)

Pros

Challenging, large scale work, have the opportunity to work on large projects and have a lot of hands on experience working with a large number of employees

Cons

The amount of regulations can get a bit out of hand. you have to learn air traffic control which is time consuming and not important to doing the job effectively.
