Pros

Promotion rate is reasonable. Pay is comfortable. Peace time operations at work generally run like a 9-5 office environment. If you are overseas you get paid a substantial amount more.

Cons

Work-life balance gets a bit tricky the longer you are in. There is also no job security as of right now. Some of the worst people in the world are in the military. Deployment can be a handful. Constant moving around depending on your job and your promotion rate.

Pros

Healthcare is great. Opportunity to travel. Pay is only partially taxable. Large member support structure. Educational opportunities (ROTC, Academy, graduate school)

Cons

Even as an officer you start out like a slave. The military is a modern form of indentured servitude. What they don't tell you is that one person's opinion can ruin your career and get you kicked out without due process. The ridgid rank structure breeds a culture of pencil-whippers and wasteful spending. People are laid off while $100,000+ temporary walls are installed in a building because the commander thought a room was too big. Working for the military is selling years of your life and freedom.

Pros

Once you join you get to travel to different places and meet people from different backgrounds. Most of your team members are very supportive of you and will help you succeed; regardless of what they think about you because the mission goes first. Leave time is 30 days and unless there's a big project pending your leave request are always approved. Once you find a good CC or supervisor; they can make the difference. I'll only recommend this company to those that come for four years to get experience and leave.

Cons

Everyone is called a leader but a lot of high ranking people should barely be called managers. A lot of incompetent people get promoted but the hard working ones struggle to do so. The promotion process are subjective and the units are told how many people can they recommend for promotion. You can get a definitely promote (regardless if you checked your boxes or not) by coming from any military school, been a prior service, earning a medal on combat or butt kissing. Unfortunately, the last one demotes the importance of the previous three. It's hard to retain the new generation because they can't stand the bureaucracy and incompetence that we dealt with every day. Everything takes twice as longer as it should because everyone is "too busy" to do they job. I've never seen a such ineffective place to do things.
