Pros

Job Security. Competitive pay with the private sector. On the job training. Benefits. Relocation reimbursement. Signing bonus. Move from gs 7 to gs 11 in 3 years. Opportunity for continuing education. Pay for schooling. This is a civilian job so there is no basic training or enlisting. Internship program takes you through 6 month cycles learning the ropes of what the position entails. Easy finding job placement after completing the internship program. Recommended to get masters while in the internship program.

Cons

Vacation days take a while to accumulate. After you reach your rank it takes a while to go up the scale.

Pros

job security you can't get fired unless you do something illegal, plenty of room for advancement if you put forth effort, 30 days of paid leave a year plus most holidays and weekends off, great benefits such as free medical, dental, optical, legal help and access to facilities on base that vary from base to base

Cons

crappy hours - depending on which job you get your position could work around the clock and your going to work nights and thru the nights eventually and often. deployments-depend on your job and location but could deploy to a foreign country once every 2 years for 3-4 months sometimes more often. low income you'll never be rich, unless you become a high ranking officer....even then its not alot.

Pros

Overall, the benefits are great and you can serve in the armed service while still maintaining quality of life. Full medical and dental coverage (if you are not satisfied with your care provider you can request another through Tricare). There is also access to gyms for as long as you hold a military ID. Most of these gyms are well equipped. Also, most units allow employees to spend additional time in the gym during working hours as mission requirements allow. Allowances for housing and food based on location and members of household. If used wisely, this division of salary enables one to budget and save huge.

Cons

Being in the right clique too often get one further than skills or work ethic. I've seen people protected those who deserve lose it all and those who should have been protected striped of everything. Rank is used to control more often than to lead. This character flaw is resulting in the loss of a number of junior members with potential. The smallest part of the whole service (pilots) are placed in leadership positions they are not qualified to lead and many are not willing to learn. Ex. Fighter pilots are not able to lead an intelligence squadron to it's full potential and so many are too cocky to learn from their senior intelligence officers and sergeants.
