Pros

The salary including allowances is very competitive with the civilian market. The Army has a lot more holiday time than most American organizations, public or private, 30 days a year plus at least one three or four day weekend every month. If you're smart about it, you can get trained and use your training in the civilian labor market.

Cons

In the past eight years, I haven't lived in any one place longer than 34 months. That's tough on a family and tough on a spouse's career.
