Pros

Pay (much stronger than expected, benefits really add up) Respect from others after leaving Increases tolerance for pain -- after leaving I will never again complain about lifestyle etc Making it through has made me more willing / able to sacrifice and be disciplined

Cons

Lack of respect shown up and down the officer chain Low quality personnel in all management positions (up to Admiral) Managers generally more concerned with self-promotion than doing a good job Lack of accurate KPIs Personnel are not taken care of or respected across the company Too much emphasis on covering one's behind

Pros

Can't beat the experience, great managerial experience! Have traveled all over the world. It's nice to have multiple opportunities when you're thinking about getting out.

Cons

Having to deploy, leaving family and friends behind for six months at a time. Dealing with egos and lack of interpersonal skills of superiors.
