      NO job security for long time dedication and experience

      Pros

      Today not very much. In years gone by, civil service was rewarded with some security and good health benefits. Job security was a plus. Today, jobs are eliminated at discretion of DOD budget cuts.

      DOD downsizing and privitization - fewer civil service employees and more and more contract positions

      Pros

      Teaches you how to work as a team, to get along with others, to take responsibility for your actions, and integrity.

      Cons

      The only cons I can think of is there is a lot of long hours and a lot of office politics to contend with.

      Challenging worklplace not for everyone

      Pros

      Challenging work environment where you have the opportunity for large amounts of responsibility very early. Think about skipping at least 4 to 5 years of work experience immediately out of college.

      Cons

      A soul crushing amount of tasking. I know it sounds like complaining but even the most efficient and well rounded people I know would admit that there is no way to achieve all that you are supposed to. Leads to shortcuts and just putting out the closest fire. Primarily stems from understaffing. There are just not enough officers around to get all the required things done. I held at least 4 job titles the entire time that I was in the military. Its hard to excel when you have this many balls in the air.
