Pros

Great mission, market leader, pre-IPO "unicorn" with presence on the Peninsula and SF, MENSA smart senior management team with tons of internet marketplace experience, nice benefits, evolving culture that is positive, and raising the bar in all aspects. Fun to be part of the journey! Humble management team that simply rocks.

Cons

Base compensation somewhat behind market, but senior management team looking to do the right thing to keep the best employees.

Pros

I've enjoyed working for Upwork during my time here for a number of reasons. I work in Business Development, and the team that I work with was very supportive when I started. The work environment is very "Silicon Valley-esque", in the sense that things are always changing, and management is always open to new ideas.

Cons

I don't see many downsides of working for Upwork. We're really the largest player in the industry, so competition is almost non-existent when selling. Other than that, I'm happy here.

Pros

Work from home on Wednesdays Free lunch, and fully-stocked kitchens in both MountainView and SF offices Happy hour Thursdays (SF), Tuesdays (MountainView) Most people are great (there are some truly brilliant people here) Benefits and compensation are fair (for new hires)

Cons

Power struggles Backstabbing Politics (that's everywhere, not just Upwork) Some people are terrible* Division between oDesk and Elance sides of the company (but it's on the mend)* Division between MountainView office and SF office *These cons only apply to certain teams.
