Pros

Great Salary and other perks, You can maintain Work/Life Balance and company organizes several events for maintaining this. Palo Alto is a Great Location but very expensive. Some teams work on cutting edge technologies and if you are interested in working on low level system side stuff this company is great place to be. Company culture is laid back and cool. Free snacks in the kitchen and all kinds of drinks are accessible anytime. They have beer bashes every Friday which is cool. Some managers does not much care about thier employees growth. Recently they have lowered standards on hiring specially in QA.

Cons

QA dept is looked down upon and not respected much. Not all groups work on cool technologies some groups are terrible and people does not have adequate knowledge of technologies they work on. Some are really terrible. dont even know the basics of computer science. There is huge gap in knowledge of QA and developers. HR practices are non existent and company still have some startup like immature processes. I'm not sure how secure the job here is because they started panicking from competition from microsoft. Paul Maritz is changing the way company is run under old leadership. Not so good feel.

Pros

Many people still view it as a "smart" place to work. The nature of the technology allows the company to become even more popular during difficult economic times. If you can get to know some of the core group of good, smart people there are some good conversations to be had... once you exhaust the discussion of the daily incompetence.

Cons

Overactive growth during the past three years has led to a work force of 6800+, where only 1500 perform net positive work. This growth has also led a a proliferation of middle management based more on justification of increased salary then actual responsibility or performance.

Pros

Salary is better than average and benefits are generally OK. Company is still growing even in harsh economic climate. Products are great and company from an R&D perspective is still being innovative. Long term still looks good.

Cons

Big company still acting like a start-up. Too many silos. Too much "reactive" behavior (not enough "proactive" planning). Not enough career development opportunities. Work-load does not seem to be well balanced - some dedicated people are killing themselves while others get away with doing the bare minimum.
