VMware has lost its way

Pros

I would have said being surrounded by smart people with a purpose, lead by people with integrity, at a forward thinking company with a bright future - but I can't. Not anymore. That's what VMware used to be. Even the newest, most innovative group to come along in a long time - vCloud Air - has devolved into a political, back-stabbing mess populated with weak leadership that either already has or will soon drive off everybody with any talent and brains. And it seems this nightmare of a management team will even fire those that question any of this. Where are your EPIC values when they actually need to be tested VMware? In the trash, with all the other good things you ever did.

Cons

If you think my Pros were Cons, wait till you hear the Cons. In summary, the leadership of the vCloud Air team specifically has somehow become convinced that they actually know what they are doing. No longer is there a sense of experimentation and risk taking, which attracted some of the brightest minds from across the company and the industry to sign up for the journey, but instead in their place are arrogance, ignorance, and politics. Arrogance is bread from the top down, with the "leaders" making arbitrary and damaging decisions while ignoring the informed counsel of the people WHO ACTUALLY DO THE JOB EVERYDAY. This leads to embarrassing displays of ignorance by the "leaders" in all hands presentations and customer meetings when false and/or falsified information is shared as the truth. And the politics of the place make it impossible for any of the smart folks who clearly know the information is untrue to call it out with their "leaders" for fear of retaliation in the form of public humiliation or firing. And they have good reason to be scared - retaliation is the new blood sport at VMware. Once there was a time when people could wake up and feel good about the challenges they faced everyday...now they wake up and dread every minute.

Pros

-On the surface, it's above average pay for doing tech support, but the breadth of knowledge required to be effective makes the bottom salary for this position seem like peanuts. If you don't think you're worth 70k, your skills probably aren't up to snuff to thrive in the job. -RSUs are nice, but take forever to vest -Set schedule, except for surprise mandatory overtime on weekends for which you may only get 3 or 4 days notice.

Cons

Over the last 6-10 months, there's been a hiring frenzy, a hiring freeze, and a mass exodus of some of the top performers. Management decided not to backfill before the end of the year (likely to come in under budget and line some upper management pants with a fat bonus), increasing workload on those that remained. Re-implemented weekends for everyone. Started taking away perks. Implemented some insane procedural policies and changes to the ticketing system I would be embarrassed to call a pre beta against the better judgement of virtually everyone that has to actually use it. Announced a reorg saying that there were no plans to move positions to other countries. Subsequently culled part of the herd including a manager while saying it was ok, because we're filling seats in the other countries. Management just puts on a happy face while the rest of us facepalm. These events are the exact opposite of what they obviously oversold when talking about this mythical VMware Culture™ that possibly at one time existed, but never really witnessed.

Pros

Free a.c cabs MDM- cutting edge technology Hoping VMware will introduce their policies If you love holding buckets please come ahead Dedicated room for hr to stay safe and isolated- **wow**

Cons

- politics to peak - QA is treated bad - zero employee benefits - freshers are paid better than experienced - zero automation - no is bothered about employee benefits - people with zero knowledge on anything at all blame you for taking long breaks - no work from home at all - only based on your team you might get a chance to learn - food is very bad and hr does not bother to find a better one - still have a lot of bad things we are undergoing now just cannot keep listing them.
