Pros

I found the salary and benefits to be very good at VMware. Over the years the bonuses were good and I usually received raises on schedule. There are some very intelligent people that work at VMware and make for great co-workers. VMware has some really amazing technology and the products are fun to with.

Cons

My advice to anyone who takes a role at VMware is to make sure you're happy doing that job for a long time because advancement opportunities are limited. The most frequent complaint I heard at VMware was lack of opportunity to grow in one's career. That was true of me as well and the single biggest issue I pointed out on our yearly surveys. For whatever reason, the company usually fills open positions from the outside in most cases. While I realize this can help bring talent in, talented people on the inside of the company are often overlooked.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I agree we have a fantastic opportunity as a company and we do recognize that people are our most important asset. We have been working very hard to provide even more career choices and opportunities. We made progress this year but we need to do even more. First, about 25% of our total hires come from inside VMware. We are proud of that number as a fast growing company entering new markets, but we want that percentage to be higher. We have also launched programs this year that allow our employees to get exposure to new areas of our business. For example, our Take 3 program allows employees to take a 3-month internal sabbatical to try something new, spend time with our customers, focus on innovation, or give back through the VMware Foundation. People often return to their jobs after the 3 months but in some cases it leads to a new role and we support that. Our goal is to provide more career options at VMware then our people can find outside of VMware. It is a lofty goal but we are making progress.

Pros

It's stable, and there is room to move up. A lot of the people here are really great outside of work.

Cons

Salary, Hours, organization. Sales has all of the power and it makes for a really crappy product. VMware is going to make it a lot better, but the process is slow. Management basically treats everyone like they are replaceable. No loyalty, below average pay for above average hours, you are never rewarded unless you are in sales.

Pros

Good exposure to a wide range of Technical issues. Very good for improving your technical skills. Good team work and work colleagues. Holidays good, canteen very good and some nice perks from time to time.

Cons

very busy !! VMware like to portray that the customer always come first but it seems that stats are all that matters to management. Training is inadequate and almost not existent, usually you are too busy to go on training when it does come around. Opportunities are very limited there and it seems to be the culture in VMware that if you want to further your career you have to leave the company and this is a shame !!
