Just OK..

Pros

Market leader... Brand new campus.. Great engineers.. Company can just grow with the market as market itself is growing for virtualization. Top management is good..(can't say the same about management in lower layers)

Cons

Middle management is grotesquely bad..and you'd have to be dealing with them. And hence if nothing, done on the brink of great exodus..since everyone's vested their IPO options. No clear communication flow.

I would like to have liked VMware; it seems like it would have been a great place to work just a few years ago.

Pros

- Company has an impressive and distinguished history - Core technologies and many of the people who work on them are very impressive - Good benefits.

Cons

- Lots of very poor middle management. - A questionable tier of executive management lies between the CEO and the rest of the company. - Many ill conceived, floundering junk projects. - Outside the core cash cow businesses, other initiatives are often questionable either technically, or from a business standpoint, or both. - Engineering morale is poor in many groups and seems to be continuing to deteriorate. - Worrisome attrition in multiple parts of the company. - Salaries compare poorly with those of peer companies.

If want to be in virtualization this is the place to be. Rock-solid products. Smart people. CEO really smart.

Cons

Working from a satellite office means you often get overlooked. Can't travel anywhere anymore due to cost saving measures. Mid-management make either a) no decisions or b) mostly stupid ones.
