Pros

My direct manager is great. Some of my peers are fantastic. Decent pay. OK benefits. Flexible schedule. Good severance package for those who have been around for a while

Cons

Where do I begin? Senior leadership continues to be ex-Oracle. Apparently, they believe we should be an Oracle shop in every way. They even got rid of SFDC in favor of Oracle's lousy CRM making it even more difficult to get our day-to-day jobs done. Layoffs are non-stop at this point with another big one coming soon. And while cuts are sometimes necessary in any business, some managers are not consulted which results in top performers being cut while ineffective peers stay on. It makes no sense. (btw - it appears all/most operational and back office jobs will soon be based out of India). Work/Life balance is terrible. It has been made worse with all the cuts over the past few years and the expectation that those left standing will simply pick up the slack. Working long days, late nights, weekends, holidays and during vacation is a survival technique. Benefits that were grandfathered in are being taken away. Penalties for family healthcare if your spouse has their own coverage (who wants to manage 2 different health care plans??). No investment outside of the core NBU product set. Current corporate strategy seems to be: strip the organization down to the bones so it can be sold off in pieces.

Pros

Company has great product, but it lacks vision and brand persona still riding on the fact, that it has 25 or more years’ experience. Which doesn’t matter in today’s world what matters is how fast you can eat the other fishes in the pond not how big your legacy know how is.

Cons

In the time I worked with Veritas since the split from Symantec I experienced 5 change of senior leadership and 4 change of go to market strategies happening amidst and within fiscal year and disrupting any chance on achieving plans for the people on plans. The company came up with phony commission plans just beefing up their own cash flow leaving employee which were on sales plan basically without tangible commission for an extended period of the fiscal year. Meritocracy is a word that is not part of Veritas dictionary unfortunately and that scared and pushed people to leave the company as being left without any career progression perspectives. Some Senior Sales Manager have issues to contain their temper and emotions. Either angry and aggressive or everything is great, and the company is heaven on earth. No middle way. From a business strategy it looks like a one trick pony organisation that ran out of trick. Mid Sales management is 50% ok and the other part is very obnoxious and like to speak just about themselves and about how great they are. That said only if they are not busy pleasing the senior managers. And being nasty with their staff lacking basic courtesy. Not leading instead more demoralising. There are exceptions though but they are rare. I understand that HR has and had an extensive backlog dealing with complaints about these issues which its solving hasn’t been prioritized by the company as far it looks. It’s a sad situation because there are a lot of good, decent people wanting to do a good job but left without leadership and means to achieve that. Brain drain, talent drain, and talent acquisition are real issue at Veritas.
