Pros

You can get out

Cons

Management bully. Management brainwashed. Partners are not looked after at all. All about profits. Bank holidays worked and not paid back They refuse your leave and then you lose it because you haven't taken it within 30 days. Work is expected outside your normal hours at no pay. IE Training is in your time Not theirs at no pay. You're expected to be flexible like a rubber band but don't expect flexibility back. This is the new MODERN Waitrose. Holidays will be refused all the time when you have to try and book all SIX of your weeks over a year in advance. If you then want one day off for a funeral or wedding they have you over a barrel. Contracted hours are a joke and you're expected to be on call for the company at all times. Woe betide if you go sick. Nobody else can call in for you even if you're dying you have to call in yourself and explain you're symptoms. Even then they call you back every 12 hours to see if you have recovered. The general public think this is a good company to work for, but believe me it's not any more. It may well have been 5 years ago but now it is just a money making machine that doesn't give a jot about the shop worker. Do not work for this company, shocking wages and very soon even the bonus will be taken away and put towards company profits. Oh and finally they have this thing called partner voice whereby your opinions can be heard. The people they select to sit on these councils have already been brainwashed into thinking like managers so there's no hope there either.

Pros

*The bonus which is an attempt to cover up the fact that they pay a lot less than any other supermarket. Not to add every supermarket pays a bonus of some sort but Waitrose make it well know to make their staff seem like their treated better than other supermarkets when they are not.

Cons

* if you have any issues with not getting paid there is no clear way to get the problem sorted as the company seems to think it's to perfect to have these issues. I didn't get paid for my first 3 months while doing over 40 hours a week and they took over a year to give me that money. They showed no urgency to sort it out till I got a solicitor involved. *They pretend to be something they are not. We are not partners we are people working together. * There are no opportunities to progress as they don't want to pay you while you do the training that is needed. They just hire people who are already at that level at another company. They were talking about moving me up to be a team leader for 10 months and didn't get around to it till I said I was leaving. * There are 5 different performance levels if you get past devoloping you most likely get a pay rise and if you go bellow it you get a disciplinary and eventually get sacked if you stay there. The issue is that nobody ever goes above or bellow it someone that hides in the back all day after turning up late will be in devoloping and so will someone that works every bit of stock by themself and stays on past their shift to finish what their doing. * The most short staffed supermarket and the lowest pay? You would think they have a higher profit margin then? No that's the lowest aswel. * Some mornings we will have as few as 3 members of staff in the manager the bakery staff and 1 person to pull the delivery in work all the stock and stay on the tills at the same time? Not realistic and they are trying to cut staff even more.

Pros

The pay during nights is really good . So if you want to be bullied all night long for the pay then this is the job for you!

Cons

Managers believe they are more righteous than everyone . None of them take into account that your a person not a machine . Managers are extremely rude constantly saying your not working hard enough every half an hour even though your doing the hardest you can do ! Oh yeah , dont get ill even with a doctors note or youll get sacked!
