Pros

Treated with respect Good work/life balance for retail Good pension and benefits inc discount and subsidised tickets, etc Real sense of team spirit at work Profit sharing bonus

Cons

Not a lot of opportunity to move up in the company at the mo due to the axing of many department manager jobs, meaning many are stepping down to team manager or equivalent roles and any new department manager jobs that do come up are snapped up by those who lost their old role. Bonus - not been great for a few years, reflecting the food retail industry's current state of affairs.

Pros

Reasonable benfits (salary, leisure reimbursement for gigs, arts etc.) Good intranet Cheap food available on breaks Salary consistent across age groups

Cons

Extremely inconsistent breaks between employees (deliberate due to hour structuring) Poor branch management Training almost non existent (relying on other staff to ad-hoc teach you) Difficulty booking holidays at times Inability to appropriately schedule overtime - regularly asked to 'add hours' at end of shifts rather than simply sign up to shifts with ability to plan Upward mobility difficult without full time role & very good relationship with managers No floor staff suggestions listened to

Pros

- discount is amazing - majority of staff you work with are lovely - if you want to there are chances to develop and grow within the company

Cons

As a lot of places now staff are spread too thin. They expect a high level of service still even though there isn't the staff. This is unfair on the staff and customers. They need to think this through. For me I still get the perks as I have been there long enough but time and a half pay is not available on new contracts for Sunday's and bank holiday's anymore which used to be another appealing aspect. I feel sorry for the new staff that do not get this as everyone else before them still does.
